Stylus Tip adaptation for fine detailing - some simlple solutions.

Posted on February 16, 2012 at 10:05am 10 Comments

Here are a few ideas for Stylus adaptations.(answer to a request for advice on fine detailing using the Stylus tool for graphics.

First the regularly available tips for the Encaustic Art Stylus (or tips similar to this). On the Brush Heads a few wire hairs can be twisted together to make a very fine wire finger that is good for minute melting and dragging the wax colours about. Also when the brush heads are older the hairs get finer and again, some strands can…

Michael, thanks for all your tips, regarding different Stylus tips. I have already experimented myself with different, e.g., different screw heads. The only drawback is, when using an adapted Stylus is, that the heat cannot be regulated. To overcome this, I use the iron as a hot plate and heat up the screw head on its own, which works very well. To avoid burning my fingers, I hold the screw with a small pincer tool, which has a rubber handle.

Thanks Michael, you are right, I 'dive' into this type of technique, which I greatly enjoy. I wished my mother would be still around, as she was an artist herself and a master of colours.

Michael, Your participation on this site is so appreciated.  You are so right that we are all in this Encaustic World together, supporting and encouraging each other.  It makes me very happy to be a part of this.  I look forward to looking at more of your work...and thanks for watching the video of my teaching the children.  I'll upload that to this site to make it easier for others to view.

Michael, your paintings are so enjoyable to look at.  They are imaginative, poetic, lyrical, bright.  I would love to know the story behind some of them.  They depict the drama of life.  And thank you for your comments on my work.  It's always great to get feedback from fellow artists, especially encaustic artists!!!
